What is Indie Decent Covers?
Indie Decent Covers (IDC) is a cover contest run by Fantasy For Sale — a community of mostly self-published fantasy authors who believe in human-made art, human-written stories, and indie publishing done right.
Who can enter
Eligibility
Self-published
Your book must be independently published — KDP, Itch.io, your own storefront, or any other indie route.
No Generative AI
Your cover must be entirely human-made. No AI-generated images, AI-enhanced art, or AI-assisted illustration. The artist must be able to confirm this.
Fantasy genre
Your book should be a fantasy novel or series — epic, dark, cosy, grimdark, romantic fantasy — any sub-genre welcome.
How to enter
What to submit
Send your submission with all of the following. Incomplete entries will not be considered.
01 — Your Cover
A high-quality image of the book cover you’re entering.
02 — Artist Name
The name or handle of the artist who created your cover.
03 — Artist Portfolio Link
A link to the artist’s portfolio, website, or social media where their work can be viewed.
04 — Artist Medium & Tools
A brief description of how the cover was made — e.g. digital painting in Procreate, traditional watercolour, photo manipulation in Photoshop.
05 — Artist No-AI Statement
Evidence the artist does not use generative AI — a statement from their website or social media, a clause in your commission contract, or a direct message from the artist confirming this.
06 — Progress Sketches or Videos (if available)
Any work-in-progress images, sketches, or process videos the artist provided during the commission. Not required, but they strongly support your entry.
Submit your entry
